Dear Friends! We are happy to announce the launch of the Business Case Debate Competition which is organized by MGIMO Debate Club in cooperation with Procter & Gamble. It is a synthesis of two very popular models of dealing with real life issues – Parliamentary Debates and Case Study. Participants will receive a business case built on real and fictitious data in advance. They are also welcome to use any extra information they know or find about the issue related to the case. After preparation they will debate on the issue of the case. The debate will be in the British Parliamentary Format (with four teams of 2 players per room, 2 teams in proposition, 2 teams in opposition). The task of the proposition teams is to convince the Members of the Board (i.e. the audience or the adjudicators) to accept their solution to the case (or their plan of actions), whereas the opposition teams’ task is to refute proposition’s arguments and convince the Board not to go with the proposed plan. The competition will be in English and will consist of the 2 preliminary rounds and the Final. 16 teams will be invited to participate, with quotas of 2 teams per each of the universities: MGIMO, MGUA, HSE, MSU, Finance Academy, MGTU n/a Bauman, and 4 places for any other teams allocated on the 1st come -1st served basis. In case these 4 places are not claimed, they will be distributed among the above-listed universities. Preliminary rounds will start on April 11th, at 14.30 and will be hosted by MGIMO Debate Club. The debate itself will be preceded by the presentation by P&G experts about the core issues of the case. After the rounds all participants will be invited to a small Champaign reception which is a unique opportunity to talk to representatives of Procter & Gamble and find out more employment opportunities within this company. Registration will start at 12.00 on March 23rd and will close at 23.59 on March 31st. Applications from invited universities will be accepted only if they are endorsed by the heads of their debating societies. The right to choose the teams rests on the respective debating societies themselves. All applications from both invited societies and independent teams should be sent to mgimodc@hotmail.com. Adjudication panels will consist of at least 3 judges (including one expert from Procter & Gamble) per room. We welcome experienced adjudicators – both independent and from the invited debating societies. Application deadline is April 8th. All participants will be sent the basis case information on April 1st (it should be taken seriously albeit the Fools Day). The sides in the debate will be assigned 15 minutes before the round. All details about the Final will follow in due time. Large audience is very welcome to attend this event. If you are not a student of MGIMO and would like to attend this event, please send a request with you full name and institution you represent to mgimodc@hotmail.com no later than April 8th.
